George William Upton (junior) was born in 1888 at Nottingham, he was the son of George William (senior) a frame work knitter and his third wife Ellen Upton née Cowdell
His father George William Upton (senior) was born in 1846 at Arnold, he died in 1897 he was 51 yrs old, his mother Ellen Cowdell was born in 1854 at Bingham, she died in 1918 aged 64 yrs, they were married in 1883 at Bingham, they had 4 children
In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Mapperley Yard, Woolpack Lane, Nottingha, his widowed mother Ellen 63 yrs of age a lace drawer she is living with her son George William Upton 22 yrs a lace puncher.
He was the husband of Ethel Annie Robinson (born 16th May 1888 ) in 1914 at Nottingham, they lived at 108 Dame Agnes Street St Ann's Nottingham. Etel Brought a daughter to the marriage Ruth Robinson born 22nd March 1909 and they had a daughter Lilly Ellen Upton born 6th March 1915.
Commencing 16th June 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Driver George William Upton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 231st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery he died on 28th November 1918 of pneumonia he is buried at the Nottingham General Cemetery.
