Arthur Brown was born in 1898 at Hucknall and was the son of Joseph a coal miner and Priscilla Brown née Burton of 16 Charles Street, Hucknall. His father Joseph was born in 1854 in Hartwell, Northamptonshire, his mother Priscilla Burton was born in 1858 at Hucknall, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 12 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children list in the 1891/1901/1911 census were all born in Hucknall and were James 1876, Bethia b1880, William b1882, Joseph b1885, Catherine b1889, Lilly b1893, Albert Edward b1895, Gladys b1898 and Arthur b1898. In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Charles Street, Hucknall and are shown as Joseph 57 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Priscilla 53 yrs and their children, Kitty 22 yrs a dress maker, Albert Edward 16 yrs a coal miner, roadman, Gladys 13 yrs an apprentice dressmaker and Arthur 13 yrs an errand boy

Gunner Arthur Brown served in the 2nd Reserve Bde, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on 24th November 1918 at Magdalen Camp Hospital, Winchester. He is buried in Hucknall Cemetery (grave ref. A. South.279).
