Family history

Fred Thorpe was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late George Thorpe a fish monger and Elizabeth Thorpe née Terry Thorpe and the brother of John born 1890 Lizzie born 1893.

His father George was born in 1862 at Notingham, he died in 1910 aged 48 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Terry was born in 1867 at Arnold, they were married in 1904 at Nottingham, they had 3 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 8 Wright's Yard Finch Street Southwell Road Sneinton Nottingham, Elizabeth 44 yrs a widow and hosiery winder, she is living with her children, John 20 yrs a threader and winder, Lizzie 17 yrs a lace hand, Fred 12 yrs a scholar

Military history

Private Fred Thorpe enlisted at Nottingham he served with 'B' Coy 10th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd March 1918 having no known grave his name was commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
