Family history

He was the son of Maria Taylor née Bunker and the late Thomas Henry a bricklayer and the brother of William, Eliza and Jane Taylor of Spalding Road, Nottingham,

His father Thomas Henry was born in 1857 at Nottingham, he died in 1901 at Nottingham he was 44 yrs of age, his mother Maria Bunker was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married in 1877 at Radford, Nottingham

In the 1911 census the family were living at 56 Spalding Road Carlton Road Nottingham. Maria 52 yrs is a widow, she is a lace worker she is living with her children, William 27 yrs he is single and is in the Army, Eliza 23 yrs married, no occupation listed, Richard Edward 21 yrs a telephone mechanic and Jane 18 yrs a fancy net finisher. His mother states on the census she had been married 33 yrs and had 9 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or ealy childhood.

Military history

Private Richard Edward Taylor enlisted on 20th November 1915 at Aldershot, giving his age as 26 yrs and 3 months, he was a telephone mechanic and was living at 56 Spalding Road, Carlton Road, Nottingham, his next of kin was his mother Maria of the same address, he was posted to the 23rd Battalion, Middlexsex Regiment. He landed in France on 3rd May 1916, and was killed in action on 29th September 1918, having no known grave his name is commemrated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
