Family History

Henry was born in Nottingham in 1883 and was the husband of Ellen Straw née Fielding of 273 Windmill Lane Carlton Road Nottingham they married in Nottingham in 1906 and went on to have 5 children , 1 sadly died in childhood .Their children were Arthur b1908, Nellie b1909, Harry b1910 and Frank b1911, all the children were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Villa Place, Nottingham and are shown as Henry 28 yrs head of the family a lace dresser, he is living with his wife Nellie 26 yrs and their three children , Arthur 3 yrs, Nellie 2 yrs and Harry 1 year.

Military History

Pte. Henry Straw, enlisted in Nottingham in 1914 and served with the 6th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he landed in France as a reinforcement to 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment on 19th January 1915. He died of pneumonia on 10th November 1918 at 20th General Hospital in France and he is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery

Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 10th November 1918 :- “STRAW. – Died of pneumonia, in France, on November the 10th, after serving four years,Pte. H. Straw, Lincolns, aged 36 years, the beloved husband of Ellen Straw, 273, Windmill Llane.
