Family History

Arthur was born in 1887 was the son of John Richardson a house painter and Fanny Richardson née Newham of 7,, Duke Terrace, Dawson Stree,t Sneinton, Nottingham. His father was born at Nottingham in 1851 and his mother in 1852 also at Nottingham. They were married in 1872 in Nottingham and had 8 children all of whom were born in the city:- Walter b.1875, Lucy, 1878, Frank b.1882 (died from effects of gas poisoning 9/8/1916), Mary b.1884, Arthur b.1887, Ernest b.1887, Millicent b.1889 and Harriett b.1892.

Military History

Arthur Richardson served on the Western Front from 27th August 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Extra Information

His brother Sapper Frank Richardson served with the Royal Engineers he landed in France on 12th May 1915. After being gassed, he was discharged from the Army on 3rd June 1916. He died from the effects of gas poisoning on 9th August 1916 but is not recorded as a casualty of war by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
