He was the husband of Bertha Page (née Anthony) whom he had married in Nottingham in 1906 they lived at 5 Leighton Street Carlton Road Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is shown as being 29 yrs a bricklayers labourer , he is living with his wife Bertha also 29 yrs a lace mender at 5 Leighton Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham , on this census they have declared they have been married for 4 yrs , had 1 child who died in infancy.
Sergeant Richard John Page, M.M.& Bar, enlisted on 14th June 1915 in Nottingham , he was 33 yrs and 8 months of age, he was living at 5 Leighton Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham. He served with 16th Battalion (Chatsworth Rifles),Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He was promoted to Sergeant on 23rd August 1917. He was killed in action on 16th April 1918 and has no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. He was awarded a military medal and subsequently a bar to it.
He received a military medal which was Gazetted in the 'London Gazette,' on 2nd November 1917. and then awarded a bar to it Gazetted in the 'London Gazette,' on 13th September 1918. Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 16th May 1918 :- PAGE. – Killed in action, April 16th, 1918, my dear husband, Sergt. R. J. Page, M.M., Sherwood Foresters.
