He was the husband of Edith Hazard Morton. In 1911 they lived at 20 Richmond Street Sneinton Nottingham. At the time of his death his wife Edith was living at 37 Independent Hill, Bath Street,Nottingham
Private William Morton, 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, enlisted in Nottingham on 24th August 1899 he attested to serve 7 yrs with the colours and 5 yrs in the reserves he served with the 2nd battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was discharged on 23rd August 1911 after serving his 12 yrs , he must have re enlisted at the outbreak of the war as he landed in France on 14th April 1915, he died on 4th July 1916 from wounds received on 1st July 1916. He is buried in St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen. (Grave Reference: A. 22. 22)

Husband of Edith Morton, 37 Independent Hill.’ Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 15 July 1916: 'Private William Morton, Royal scots Fusiliers, 35, died of wounds July 4th. 37 Independent Hill, Bath Street, Nottingham.' Fondly remembered. – Sister-in-law, Ethel, husband, and little nieces. “MORTON. – In affectionate remembrance of my dear husband, Private William Morton, Royal Scots Fusiliers, died in hospital July 4th, 1916, wounds received July 1st.
