Family history

James Lowton was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 16th March 1887 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, Nottingham he was the son of the late Edward a general labourer and Eliza Alice Lowton née Parker of 3 Lower Eldon Street, Nottingham.

His father Edward was born in 1848 at Nottingham, he died in 1912 aged 64 yrs his mother Eliza Alice Parker was born in 1852 in Ireland, they were married on 1st October 1871 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 cenus the family lived at 3 Lower Eldon Street Nottingham, Edward 63 yrs no occupation is living with his wife Eliza Alice 59 yrs and their children, James 24 yrs a railway plate layer and Eliza Alice 19 yrs a laundry machinsit.

James was the husband of Jennie Hustwayte (born 19th September 1890) they were married on 5th June 1911 at St Albans Church, Nottingham, they lived at 8 Hampton Terrace Walker Street St Ann's Nottingham. He was the father of Alice Ellen born 22nd February 1912 and Jennie born 10th December 1915.

Commencing 4th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

His widow re married on 2nd Febraury 1918 at Nottingham to Richard Whitworth they lived at 6 Eldon Place, Keswick Street, Nottingham.

Military history

Private James Lowton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 12th battalion Northumberland Regiment, he died on 26th Septmber 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
