John was married to Mary E. and at the time of his death in 1916 their home was at 19 Kingston Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. His brother Stephen's name was recorded on St Mary's parish register in 1917; his home address was 2 Lotus Street, St Ann's, but at the time he was a prisoner of war.

Military History

John formerly served with the Northumberland Fusiliers (service number 1978). He served in France from 14 April 1915. He was killed in action and is buried in Citadel New Military Cemetery, Fricourt (grave ref V.F.16). He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
