Family History

Telford Peet was born on 20th December 1890, at Ruddington he was baptised on 25th September 1892 at St Peter’s Church, Ruddington , he was the son of the late William a frame work knitter and the late Elizabeth Peet née Henson of Back Street, Ruddington. William was born in 1832 at Ruddington, he died in 1903 aged 73 yrs, Elizabeth Henson was born in 1848 at Ruddington she died in 1908 aged 60 yrs, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had 8 children. In the 1901 census the family were living at 4 Back Street, Ruddington. In 1911 Telford and his brother Reuben were boarding on Station Road Ruddington Telford was a twist hand. Telford married Florence Holwell (born 26th February 1890) in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at 23 Station Road, Ruddington, commencing 19th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Telford Peet enlisted at West Bridgford whilst residing at Ruddington, he served with the 2/4th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

His brother Frank Peet Rifleman Frank Peet enlisted at West Bridgeford, whilst residing at Ruddington, he initially served with the service number 306624 in the Army Service Corps, later transferring to the 13th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he died on 16th September 1918 as a result of shell wounds at 3rd Canadian General Hospital, France, he is buried at Terlingthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.
