Family History

William Thomas Bailey was born in 1892 at Hucknall and was the son of William a boot salesman and Marie Bailey née Edgeworth. In 1901 they lived at 4 West Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His father was born in 1866 in Wicken Cambridgeshire and his mother Maria Edgeworth was born in 1864 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. They were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Hucknall Gertrude b1891, William b1892, Ernest b1895 and Ethel b1900. He married his wife Bertha Halliwell in 1913, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they lived at Hazel Grove, Hucknall, Notts.

Military History

Private William Thomas Bailey enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 16th (County of London) Bn Queen's Westminster Rifles. He formerly served with the Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action on 14th August 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres, Belgium
