Family History

Wallace was born in 1887 in Nottingham and was the son of brewery labourer Thomas and Betsy Ann Drury née Cowham His father Thomas was born in 1861 in Allington, Lincolnshire, hs mother Betsy Ann Cowham was born in 1868 in Friskney, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1881 in Nottingham and went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 of whom died in infancy before 1911. Their surviving children were : Wallace b1887, Thomas 1888, Willie b1891, Bertie b1894 Elsie May b1898 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 29-31 Virginia Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, and were shown as Thomas 50 yrs a brewery labourer , he is living with his wife Betsy Ann 48 yrs and three of their children, Willie 20 yrs a brewery labourer, Bertie 17 yrs a fitter and Elsie May 13 yrs a scholar. Wallace married his wife Mary A Brailsford in Nottingham in 1912. His father Thomas died in 1916 in Nottingham he was 55 yrs old

Military History

Pte. Wallace Drury, enlisted at Derby and served with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He landed in France on 8th September 1914, he was taken prisoner on 20th October 1914 during the action at Ennentieres. He died as a prisoner of war on 2nd August 1917 and is buried in Hamburg Cemetery.
