He was the son of Hannah Elizabeth Davis of 4 Hayward Yard Hayward Street Nottingham. He had five siblings: Jennie, Rose, Lucy, Nellie and Jack. Jack also served in the war.

Nottingham Evening Post, Roll of Honour, 5 July 1918: ‘Davis. Killed in action, June 11th, Pte. Albert William Davis, KOSB, aged 25, beloved son of Ann Davis, 4, Haywood-yard, Sneinton. All is dark within our dwellings; lonely are our hearts to-day, for the one we loved so dearly has for ever passed away. From loving mother, sisters Jennie, Rose, Lucy, Nellie, brother Jack (in France), also brother-in-law Jack (with colours).’ In memoriam published 11th June 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post: 'DAVIS. – In loving memory of my dear brother, Pte.
