Family history

Tom William Crump was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Tom a painter and decorator and Lucy Florence Crump née Crafts and the brother of Frederick Albert, Walter, Ethel Charlotte, Florence Ada, Violet and Oliver Crump.

His father Tom was born in 1873 at Nottingham, his mother Lucy Florence Crafts was born in 1879 at Nottingham, they were married on 2nd January 1897 at St Thomas's Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census they lived at 4 Byron Yard Byron Street Nottingham, Tom 38 yrs is a paitner and decorator, he is living with his wife Lucy Florence 32 yrs and their 7 children including Tom William 13 yrs

they later moved to 14 Band Street, Sneinton, Nottingham(Evening Post June 1, 1919)

Military history

Private Tom William Crump enlisted on 15th May 1916 at Nottingham giving his address as 14 Bond Street, Nottingham, his age was 18 yrs and 146 days he was a rotary feeder he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France on 21st February 1917 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
