Arthur Frederick Button was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of John Button a needle maker and the late Selina Button née Slatham and the brother of John, Grace, Clarice and Edwin Button of 9 Bleasby Street Nottingham.
His father John was born in 1851 at Nottingham, his mother Selina Slatham was born in 1856 at Draycot,Derbyshire, she died in 1910 aged 54 yrs, they were married on 12th March 1883 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they had 6 children.
In the 1911 census his widowed father John 60 yrs a needlmaker is living at 9 Bleasby Street, Sneinton, he is living with his children, John 24 yrs a lace warehouseman, Grace 22 yrs a lace worker, Clarice 20 yrs keeping house, Edwin 19 yrs a surgical hosiery hand and Arthur 16 yrs a lace warehouseman.
Private Arthur Frederick Button attested on 19th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 9 Bleasby Street, Nottingham, he was 21 yrs and 5 months and was a warehouseman, his next of kin was his father John of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilised for war on 22nd February 1916 he repoted to the Sherwood Forester Regiment at Derby he was later transferred to the 9th battalion Bn Royal Irish Fusiliers and was killed in action on 16th August 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
