Harold Arthur was born in 1889 in Nottingham and was the son of William Alfred Bannister and Sarah J Bannister née Smith of 94 Whittier Road, Colwick Road, Nottingham. His father Wiliam Alfred married his mother Sarah Smith in Nottingham in 1885 and went on to have 3 children , Annie F b1885, Alice M b1888 and Harold Arthur b1889 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census his family are living at 19 Sheridan Street, Nottingham , he is living with his grandmother Mary Smith 78 yrs a widow and a lace mender, and his mother Sarah 50 yrs also a lace mender (she stated she had been married 26yrs and had, had 3 children. Harold is shown as being 21 yrs of age and single and a labourer.

Military History

Private Harold Arthur Bannister, served with the 25th Company, Machine Gun Corps, he was killed in action on 24th April 1917, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
