Family History

William Arthur Pugsley known as 'Billy' was born in 1897 the son of Albert Henry a lace mechanic and Gertrude Alice Pugsley née England and the brother of Ronald George Pugsley. Albert Henry was born in 1875 at Chard Somerset, Gertrude Alice Green was born in 1879 at Nottingham married in 1896 at Nottingham they had a further child Ronald George b 1908. In 1901 the family lived at 38 Sherwin Street (later Sun Street) Sneinton and later at 610 Woodborough Road (both Nottingham). In 1911 the family were living with his widowed grandmother Ellen England 59 yrs at 99 Exeter Road, Sherwood Rise, Albert is 36 yrs and a lace mechanic, William Arthur 14 yrs is a drapers assistant.

Military History

Rifleman William Arthur Pugsley enlisted in London whilst residing at Nottingham, served in the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) 1st/8th Bn. Killed in action on 7th October 1916 he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 9C and 9D).
