Frederick was born in 1896 at Nottingham and was the son of John a lace maker and and Mary Ann Baggaley nee Attewell of 55 Bluebell Hill Road Nottingham. His father John was born in Leicester in 1863 , his mother Mary Anne Attewell was born in 1864 in Nottingham, they were married in 1881, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they had 8 children , sadly two died in infancy or childhood prior to 1911. Their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were:- William b1884, Harry b1885, Lousia Edishaw b1888, Florence b1892, Annie b1893 and Frederick John b1896. In the 1911 census the family are living at 55 Bluebell Hill, Nottingham and are shown as John 48 yrs head of the family a lace maker, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 47 yrs and his children , Louisa 23 yrs a dress maker, Florecne 19 yrs a blouse machinist, Annie 16 yrs a stock girl and Fred 15 yrs a warehouse boy.
Private Frederick John Baggaley, enlisted in Nottingham and served with “B” Squadron, 1/1st South Notts. Hussars. He landed in Egypt on 26th April 1915 , he was killed in action in Palestine on 28th November 1917, and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery.
Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 28th November 1918:- “BAGGALEY. – In affectionate remembrance of our dear son Fred, killed in Palestine November 28th, 1917, S.N.H. A noble life laid down. – His loving loving mother, father, brothers, and sisters. “BAGGALEY. – Killed in Palestine November 28th, 1917, Pte. Fred Baggaley.
