He was the son of Thomas and Mary Atkin of Stapleford and the husband of Annie Violet Atkin of 22 Hedderley Street, Union Road, St Ann's, Nottingham.
No 4 Depot. previously 3rd (Lahore) Division Ammunition Column, Royal Garrison Artillery. He served before the war and re-enlisted on 5 September 1914 serving in France from 25 September 1914. He was evacuated to the UK the same year after being taken 'seriously ill' and was admitted to the Scottish General Hospital, Aberdeen. He was medically discharged from the army on 18 January 1915 as no longer fit for military service. He died on 24 December 1915 and is buried in Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery (grave ref. St. Ann's Valley. 9294).
Nottingham Evening Post, 27 December 1915: 'ATKIN. – On December 24th, at 22, Hedderley-street, Union-road, Albert Augustus Atkin, husband of Annie Violet Atkin. Did his duty for King and country.'
