James Barker Wilson (junior) was born in 1878 at Radford,Nottingham and was the son of James Barker Wilson (senior) James Barker (junior) married Gertrude Hooley (born 7th January 1878 Radford) in 1898 at Nottingham, they lived at 5, Cricketers Cottages, Bright St., Old Radford, Nottingham and later at 11 Lloyd Street, Droylsden, Lancashire. They had the following children, John b1899, Eliza b1901, Joseph b1903, Harriett b1904, Leonard born 24th December 1904, Evelyn born 2nd March 1908, James born 9th November 1909, Agnes born 2nd February 1912, Frederick Kitchener born 7th September 1915, In the 1911 census the family were living at 32 Vane Street, Radford, Nottingham and are shown as John (James) 32 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Gertrude 32 yrs and their children, John 12 yrs, Eliza 10 yrs, Joseph 8 yrs, Harriett 6 yrs, Leonard 5 yrs, Eveline 3 yrs and James 1 year old. Following his death his widow Gertrude was awarded a pension of 31 shillings a week which commenced on 22nd January 1917, his widow later lived at 11 Lloyd Street, Droylsden, Lancashire.
Private James Barker Wilson enlisted at Manchester whilst residing at Droylsden, he served with the 10th battalion Lancashire Regiment. He landed in France on 2nd September 1915 and was killed in action on 6th June 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
