Family History

Frank Punter was born in 1896 at Nottingham and was the son of Thomas a farm labourer and Eliza Punter née Shaw of Low Side, Small Lode, Upwell, Wisbech. His father Thomas was born in 1867 at Wisbech, his mother Eliza Ann Shaw was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they wee married in 1886 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Elizabeth b1888, George b1891, Thomas David b1894, Frank b1896, Eliza Ann b1898, all were born in Nottingham, the family then went to live at Upwell near Wisbech where they had the following children, Catherine b1901, Stanley b1904, Elisa b1907 and Herbert b1909. In the 1911 census Frank lived with his widowed grandmother Eliza Punter at 68 St Peter's Street Radford Nottingham they were shown as Eliza Punter 57 yrs of age a widow, Frank is shown as being 15 yrs an apprentice hair dresser. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at Low Side, Small Lode, Upwell, Wisbech, where Thomas is 44 yrs of age and is a farm labourer, Frank married Henrietta Shaw in 1918 at Nottingham, they had a daughter Beryl Punter born 16th August 1919 and they lived at 62 St Peter's Street.

Military History

Private Frank Punter enlisted at Nottingham on 13th November 1915, he was 19 yrs and 5 months old. he was living at 62 St Peters Street, Radford and was a gramaphone repairer. Initially serving with the service number 32421 with the 17th battalion (Welbeck Rangers) Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps, when he was discharged from the Army on 26th August 1918 as no longer fit for active service having lost his left eye due to shrapnel, he was awarded a Silver war badge, number 443012 He died on 18th May 1920 of cardiac dilatation and Bright's disease (kidney disease) and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery Grave Reference: 03511
