Family History

Frank Priestley was born on 15th October 1899 at Nottingham, he was thee son of John a mattress maker and Susannah Priestley née Harvey of 68 Independent Street, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1872 at Radford, his mother Sussanah Harvey was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married on 20th April 1899 at St Thomas Church, Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Frank b1899, Arthur b1904, Ethel b1906, John Henry b1908 and Albert Edward b1911. In the 1911 census the family lived at 37 Croydon Road , Nottingham and were shown as John 39 yrs a mattress maker, he is living with his wife Susannah 38 yrs and their children, Frank 11 yrs a scholar, Arthur 7 yrs a scholar, Ethel 5 yrs, John Henry 3 yrs and Albert Edward 5 months of age.

Military History

Private Frank Priestley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'B' Coy, 1st battalion King's Own (Royal Lancashire Regiment). He was killed in action on 8th August 1918 and is buried at Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Lacouture

Extra Information

His father John had previously served with the Cheshire Regiment, upon the outbreak of war he enlisted on 16th September 1914, at Nottingham, he was 41 yrs and 74 days, an upholsterer living at 68 Indenpendent Street, Nottingham. He was posted to the Labourer Corps and served on the Home Service Employment scheme. He served throughout the war and was discharged on 27th March 1919.
