Family History

Harold Mercer was born in 1882 he was the son of the late Henry a pattern maker and Louisa Mercer née Walters. Henry was born in 1845 at Manchester he died in 1896 aged 51 yrs, Louisa Walters was born in 1844 at Shardlow, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, From 1891 until 1911 the family lived at 13 Arthur Terrace Independent Street, Nottingham, in the 1911 census Louisa is 67 yrs a widow and is living with her son Harold 28 yrs a lace pattern maker.

Military History

Private Harold Mercer enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 1st October 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
