Ernest Marriott

Ernest was born in 1895 in Radford and was the son of the late George Marriott a blacksmiths striker and Mary Marriott née Gibson. His father was born in 1865 in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and his mother Mary Gibson was born in 1861 in Nottingham, they were married in 1886 , their marriage is recorded in the Nottinghamshire Registration district. They went on to have 4 children , sadly one died in infancy or childhood, their children were William b1889 Radford, George b1891 Gainsborough and Ernest b1895 Radford. In the 1901 census the family are living at 1 Park Square, Derby Road, Nottingham. His father George died aged 40 yrs in 1904, the death is recorded in the Nottingham Registration District . In the 1911 census the family are living at 12 Park Hill, Derby Road, Nottingham and are shown as : Mary Marriott 50 yrs widow , head of the family a winder for lace machine, she is living with her sons William 22 yrs a bread maker and Ernest 16 yrs a butchers boy . Her other son George has left the home address and is shown on the 1911 census as Able Seaman in The Royal Navy , on the night of the census he is a member of the crew of HMS Queen which is stationed at Gibralter. The family later lived at 12 Byfield Street Radford,Nottingham.
