Arthur Eyre Willars was born in 1896 in Kirkby in Ashfield and was the son of John Thomas Weston Willars a coal miner and Mary Ann Eyre Willars née Fewkes of 11 Wesley Street, Annesley Woodhouse. His father John was born in 1852 in Markfield, Leicester and his mother Mary Fewkes was born in 1854 in Whitwick, Leicestershire, they were married in 1875, their marriage was recorded in Ashby De La Zouch Registration District, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 7 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were John b1875 Whitwick, Samuel b1877 Whitwick, Frank Eyre b1885 Hucknall Torkard, Wiilie Eyre b1888 Kirkby, Clara Eyre b1890 Kirkby, George Eyre b1893 Kirkby and Arthur Eyre b1896 Kirkby. In the 1911 census the family are living at 11 Wesley Street, Annesley Woodhouse and are shown as John Thomas Weston Willars 59 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 57 yrs and their children Willie 23 yrs a coal miner, Clara 21 yrs a blouse maker, George 18 yrs a colliery labourer and Arthur Eyre 16 yrs a pony driver at colliery.
Acting Corporal Arthur Eyre Willars, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 18th Battalion The King' (Liverpool Regiment), formerly of the North Midland Cyclist Company, he died on 10th April 1917. He is buried in Warlincourt Hale British Cemetery, Saulty, grave reference 7.A.9
