Harold Antcliff Willis was born in 1895 in Nottingham and was the son of Robert a health department labourer and and Emily Willis, née Haslam of 43, Mosley St., New Basford, Nottingham. His father Robert was born in 1860 in Nottingham , his mother Emily Haslam was born in 1865 also in Nottingham, they were married in 1884 in Nottingham and went on to have 5 children , one of whom died in infancy or early childhood prior to 1911, their surviving children, were all born in Nottingham and were : Robert b1885, Percy 1890, Harold Antcliff b1895 and Gladys b1904. In the 1911 census the family are living at 43 Mosley Street, Basford and are shown as Robert 51 yrs a health department labourer, he is living with his wife Emma (Emily) 46 yrs and their children Robert 26 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Percy 21 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Harold, 16 yrs a hosiery trimmer and Gladys 7 yrs
Private Harold Willis, served with the 8th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment he was killed in action 18th-19th November 1916, aged 21. He is buried in Grandcourt Road Cemetery, Grandcourt. grave reference C.6
His brother Private Percy Willis, 10th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action on 9th July 1917. He is buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Fampoux. In memoriam published 9th July 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WILLIS. – In loving memory of our dear sons Percy, killed in France July 9th, 1917, and Harold, reported missing November 19th, 1916, now presumed killed.
