Family History

He was the son of George Smith. He was the husband of May Hammond (born 13th December 1883) and the father of Louisa May Smith born 28th October 1912 . In 1911 they lived at 62, Hill Side and later at 5, Chelmsford Terrace, Chelmsford Road, Basford, (both Nottingham). Following his death his widow May was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 30th September 1918. May married John T Reed in 1919.

Military History

Private George Smith, served with the 604th Mechanical Transport Company Army Service Corps, attached XV Corps Heavy Artillery, he was killed in action on 13th March 1918. He is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L'Avoue, France. Grave Reference: IV C 40
