Son of George and Mary Eliza Swinn, born 1896. He was engaged to, Miss Lucy Cox, of Carlton
Pte. T. E. Swinn Worksop Guardian 12 October 1917 The death occurred in action on September 27th of Pte. Edward Swinn, of the Highland Light Infantry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Swinn, Hodsock, Worksop. Pte Swinn was well-known in the Carlton district and his death is much regretted. He was only 21 years of age. Before the war he was employed as a farm labourer by Col. Mellish, in whose services his father has been for some years. He enlisted in May last year in the York and Lancs. Regiment, and was subsequently transferred to the Highland Light Infantry. He was a smart and steady young lad and a brave soldier. After service in Ireland he was drafted to France in May this year, and he died on the 27th ult. from shell wounds. The poor lad had only been discharged from hospital a fortnight previously. Much sympathy is expressed with his parents and his fiancée, Miss Lucy Cox, Carlton. His brother, Pte. S. E. Swinn is in France.
