Family History

Ernest was born in 1897 in Nottingham and was the son of Frank a labourer and market gardener and Florence Tomlinson Selby (nee Cumberworth ) of 367, Woodborough Rd., Mapperley, Nottingham. Ernest had four siblings - Aubrey Frank, Leonard Erasmus, Horace Leslie and Ethel Florie. In the 1901 census the family are living at Great Hale Road, Heckington, near Sleaford. However by the 1911 census the family have moved to Norwich, where they are living at 183 Armes St, Norwich by this time Ernest is 15 years of age and an errand lad.

Military History

Private Ernest Cecil Selby enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 1/4th battalion Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. He died of wounds on 29th April 1918 and is buried in Ameke British Cemetery, Nord France grave reference II A 18
