Edward Charles (known as Ted) Savidge was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas Atkinson Savidge a managing director in a soap firm and Clara Mary Savidge née Brown, of 42 Waldeck Road, Carrington. Thomas Atkinson was born in 1871 at Nottingham, Clara Mary Brown was born in 1876 at Bedford, they were married on 9th August 1894 at St Mary’s Church, Newark, they went on to have 8 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 58 Burlington Road, Sherwood, Thomas Atkinson is 40 yrs and a managing director in a soap company, he is living with his wife Clara Mary 35 yrs and their 8 children, including Edward Charles 11 yrs a scholar.
Private Edward Charles Savidge enlisted on 14th July 1917 at Nottingham, giving his age as 17 yrs and 338 days, he was an estate agents clerk and was living at 42 Waldeck Road, Nottingham, posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 24th September 1917 and was posted to the Durham Light Infantry. He landed in France on 3th April 1918 , posted missing in action and later confirmed killed in action on 29th May 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial, France.
