Arthur Carver Riley was born in 1886 at Sneinton and was the son of William Arthur a cabinet maker and the late Emma Riley née Walker of 48 St Stephens Road, Sneinton, Nottingham. His father William Arthur was born in 1858 at Nottingham and his mother Emma Walker was born in 1853in Nottingham, they were married in 1880 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, all of whom were born in Nottingham, Kate b1884, Gertrude b1885, Arthur b1886 and Florence b1888. His mother Emma died n 1907 aged 57 yrs , his father remarried in 1910 to Elizabeth. In the 1911 census the family are shown living at 48 St Stephens Road, Sneinton and are shown as Wm Arthur 52 yrs a cabinet maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 52 yrs and their children, Gertrude Ellen 25 yrs a hosiery machinist and Florence Amy 22 yrs a hosiery machinist, William states he has been married for one year. In the 1911 census Arthur Carver Riley has left the family address , he is living at 9 Sketchley Street, Nottingham as a boarder, he is shown as being 24 yrs of age and an upholsterer he is single, he is living with Albert Newham 30 yrs a stonemason and his family Arthur Carver Riley marries his wife Daisy Saywell Robinson on 30th March 1912 at Nottingham, they live at 52, Lichfield Rd., Sneinton, Nottingham.
Private Arthur Carver Riley served initially with the 17th battalion Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment) later transferring to the (492955) Labour Corps. he died on 29th October 1918 at the War Hospital Chester, he was buried on 2nd November 1918 and the Nottingham Church Cemetery
