John Edward Rigley

John Edward Rigley was born in 1887 in Basford and was the son of George Henry a hosiery finisher and Hannah Rigley née Mitchell 65 Arnold Road, Basford, Nottingham. His father George Henry Rigley was born in 1862 in Langley Mill and his mother Hannah Mitchell was born in 1864 in Basford, they were married in 1884 in Basford and went on to have 10 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy and their surviving children were all born in Basford and were George Henry b1885, John Edward b1887, William b1889, James b1891, Anne b1893, Herbert b1895, Mable b1899, Charles b1901 and May b1905. In the 1911 census his family are living at 65 Arnold Road, Basford and are shown as George Henry Rigley 49 yrs a hosiery finisher, he is living with his wife Hannah 47 yrs and their children, William 22 yrs a coal miner, James 20 yrs a coal miner, Anne 18 yrs a dresser, Herbert 16 yrs a coal miner, Mable 12 yrs, Charles 10 yrs and May 6 yrs. John Edward married his wife Ada Gadsby in 1910 in Nottingham and lived at 17 Ingham Terrace, Park Lane, Old Basford. In the 1911 census they are living at 15 Wilton Terrace, Wilton Street, Old Basford, Nottingham, he is shown as being 23 yrs and a coal miner and his wife is 24 yrs and a hosiery tacker.
