Family History

Harold Ernest Prince was born in 1896 at Cradley, Herefordshire and was the son of Richard a walling mason and Laura Prince née Gibbs of Red House, Rowlstone, Hereford. His father Richard Prince was born in 1871 at Ripon, Yorkshire and his mother Laura Gibbs was born in 1873 at Cradley, Hereford, they were married in 1896 at Bromyard, Hereford, they went on to have a daughter Ruby Florence born 1902 at Cradley, In the 1911 census the family are living at Red House, Rowlstone, Hereford and are shown as Richard 40 yrs a walling mason, he is living with his wife Laura 38 yrs and their children Harold Ernest 13 yrs a scholar and Ruby Florence 9 yrs. At the time of his discharge from the Army his address was 72 Queens Road, Hereford.

Military History

Harold Ernest Prince enlisted on 17th April 1915, he was 19 yrs and 30 days old and was a railway engine driver. He served with the South Western Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He saw no overseas service and appeared before a medical board on 14th August 1916 where due to tuberculosis he was deemed no longer physically fit for war service. He was discharged on 31st August 1916 at Shrewsbury to his address of 72 Queens Street, Hereford he was 20 yrs of age. He was awarded a Silver War Badge number 121383. He died on 4th December 1918 and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery.
