Family History

Harry Parsons was born in 1893 at Hucknall and was the son of William a colliery labourer and Elizabeth Parsons née Parnell of 57 West Terrace, Hucknall. His father William was born in 1860 at Warsop and his mother Elizabeth Parnell was born in 1863 at Edwinstowe, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district, they went on to have the following children, Alexander b1891, Harry b1893 and Elizabeth b1907 all were born at Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family lived at 59 West Terrace Hucknall Torkard and were shown as William 51 yrs a colliery labourer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 48 yrs and their children, Alexander 20 yrs a clothing shop assistant, Harry 18 yrs a jewellers shop assistant and Elizabeth 4 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Harry Parsons, enlisted at Hucknall he served with the 1/9th Battalion, Royal Scots (formerly Lincolnshire Regiment), he died of wounds on 16th April 1918. He is buried in Etretat Churchyard Cemetery Extension.

Extra Information

His brother Private Alexander Parsons enlisted at Hucknall he initially served with the service number 1339 in the Royal Fusiliers, he was serving with the 220th Company Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action on 27th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial panel 154-159, Belgium.
