Family History

John was born in 1877 at Lickey End, Worcestershire and was the son of Daniel a bricklayers labourer and Julia Britton. His parents Daniel was born in 1840 in Staple Hill Worcestershire and his mother Julia was born at Dayhouse Bank, Worcestershire. They were married C 1875 and had three children all born in Lickey End, Mary b1876, John b1877 and Annie b1880. By the 1901 census the family had moved to Nottingham and were living at 39 Hunt Street, St Anns. He was the husband of Edith Britton née Bradshaw of 32 Thurman Street Hyson Green Nottingham, they were married in 1907 in Nottingham and went on to have a son John born 1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at 37 Independent Street, Nottingham, John shown as 33 yrs and a carter is living with his wife Edith 33 yrs and son John 3 yrs , they are living with his mother in law Eliza Bradshaw 72 yrs a widow and shop keeper.

Military History

Lance Corporal John Britton, who served as John Mellors enlisted at Nottingham , he stated he had been born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire and was residing in Radford, Nottingham. he served with the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, died of wounds on 19th December 1914 at 13th General Hospital, Boulogne and was buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.

Britton, of the 1st Leicesters, the beloved husband of Edith Britton, aged 37 years.
