Charles Shelton was born in 1879 the son of Thomas a gardener and Mary Shelton née Tomlinson of 43, Victoria Rd., Netherfield, Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1835 at Stoke Bardolph he died in 1918 aged 83 yrs Mary Tomlinson was born in 1843 at Carlton, married in 1871 at Nottingham they had 4 children. In 1911 the family lived at 43 Victoria Road, Netherfield Thomas is 75 yrs an old age pensioner living with his wife Mary 70 yrs

Military History

Charles Shelton served as John Hall and lived at Ouse Bridge, Gedling, Nottingham. He enlisted at Southampton and was killed in action, 9th October 1916, aged 37, during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt, near Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at Connaught Cemetery at Thiepval, Somme, France.
