Family History

He was the son of Joseph Frederick and Hannah Hodgkinson and the brother of Joseph Frederick, Bertha, Jane, Clara and Arthur Hodgkinson. In 1911 they lived at 6 North Street South Normanton Derbyshire. He was the husband of Eleanor (née Cresswell) Hodgkinson and the father of Eleanor, Joseph and Miriam Hodgkinson. Eleanor married Harry Morley at Mansfield in 1917 and they lived at 25 Hope Street Mansfield Woodhouse Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Lance Corporal Samuel Hodgkinson, initially served with the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment at Gallipoli, he was serving with 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, when he died of wounds at No. 1 General Hospital on 16th December 1916. He is buried in Etretat Churchyard.
