Simon Riley Harrison was born in 1896 he was the son of Mrs. Hannah Harrison née Riley of East Lane, Edwinstowe. In the 1911 census the family are living at East Lane, Edwinstowe, head of the family is Hannah Harrison a widow, 30yrs a charwoman and laundress, she is living with three of her children May Ada 17 yrs, Simon Riley 15 yrs a farm worker and Willie 7 yrs of age. She states on the 1911 census that she has been married for 9 yrs and has had 9 children, sadly three have died in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Lance Corporal Simon Harrison enlisted at Retford whilst residing at Edwinstowe, he served with the 2/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 27th April 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
