Albert was born in Retford in 1898 and was the son of Albert an agricultural carter and Fanny Harris. In the 1901 census we find the family living at 19 Hope Square, Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield , Albert junior is 3 years of age and had been born in Retford. By the 1911 census he has left home and is a boarder with Henry Troop a bricklayers labourer and family at 2nd House, Botham Lane Retford, Albert is 13 years of age and still at school.
Albert enlisted in Beighton, Derby and served with the 8th battalion The Prince of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment. His medal cards shows he first entered a theatre of war in France on 18th July 1915 and was killed in action on 19th January 1916. He is buried in St Vaast Post Military Cemetery , Richebourg-L'Avoue, Pas De Calais, France. Research Peter Gillings
