Family History

Father: George Herod Gunn, born in 1872 at leicester, and working as a lace dresser and later as a hairdresser. Mother Mabel Lizzie, born 1876 in Nottingham. Pte. Gunn had two brothers; Charles Samuel, born in 1901 in Lenton, Nottingham and William Arthur Stanley, born in 1903 in Lenton. He also had a sister, Mabel Winifred, born in September 1910 also at Lenton. The family lived at 72 Kentwood Road, Sneinton, Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. Gunn volunteered for service and following training arrived in France on 27/07/1915. He served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, No. 24108 before being transferred to 1/2nd Battalion, Monmouth Regiment. He survived the fighting until less than four weeks before the Armistice. The battalion was involved in the Battle of Courtrai in Flanders, pushing back the German forces. He was killed in action on 14/10/1918 and was buried at Dadizeele British Cemetery.
