Family History

Herbert Victor was the only son of Herbert and Sarah Cooper. Herbert was born in 1847 in Nottingham and Sarah in 1858 in Sutton St. James, Lincolnshire. They were probably married in 1895 in Nottingham and had two children, Herbert Victor b. Nottingham 1896 (J/A/S Nottingham) and Pauiine Winifred Rosa b. Nether Broughton Leicestershire birth registered 1899 (J/F/M Melton Mowbray) born, according to the 1939 England & Wales Register, on 24 November 1898. In 1901 the family was living on Woodthorpe Drive, Nottingham: Herbert (54), a hosiery outfitter (employer), Sarah (43), Herbert (4) and Pauline (2). By 1911 the family had moved to 20 Drury Hill, Nottingham, where Sarah (53) was working as an antiques dealer on her own account (shop/at home) and Herbert (64) was assisting in the business. Both Herbert (14) and Pauline (12) were in the home on the night of the census. The family was still living at 20 Drury Hill when Herbert Victor was killed in February 1917. His mother Sarah died there two months later on 21 April (1917 A/M/J Nottingham) aged 59. His father Herbert died in 1928 (J/A/S Nottingham). Herbert's sister, Pauline, married William H Buxton (b. 8 June 1879) in 1934 (J/A/S Nottingham) and in 1939 at the time of the England & Wales Register they were living at 62 Curzon Street, Nottingham. William was a butcher (shopkeeper) and Sarah's occupation was given as 'household duties & clerk', probably assisting in her husband's business. Pauline died in 1969 (J/F/M Nottingham) aged 70.
