Family History

Thomas was born in 1891 the son of George Fogg, a gypsum miner and manufacturer and Mary Fogg (née Thorpe) of Cropwell Bishop. His father was born in 1865 at Cropwell Butler and his mother Mary Thorpe at Barkstone near Grantham. They were married in 1889 in Nottingham and had eight children one of whom died in infancy. Thomas’s surviving siblings, all born at Cropwell Bishop were Sarah Elizabeth b.1890, Annie b.1894, William b.1895 Henry, b1899, Frank b.1903, George b.1905. In 1911 Thomas lived at Newfield Farm Owthorpe whilst his family was still in Cropwell Bishop on Parker’s Row. George died in 1953 aged and Mary died in 1936 aged 69. They are both buried in St Giles churchyard Cropwell Bishop. His pension card states his dependant was his father George Fogg of 282 Denman Street, Radford, Nottingham

Military History

Thomas Fogg, served with the 4th Depot, Royal Field Artillery landing in France on 24th August 1915. He died of pneumonia on 14th February 1919 at Brook War Hospital Shooters Hill Woolwich. He is commemorated on the Screen Wall at Greenwich Cemetery.

In memoriam published 21st February 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- FOGG. – On February 14th, from pneumonia, at Brock War Hospital, Woolwich, Driver Tom, aged 27, R.F.A., dearly beloved eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G.
