Family History

Alfred Stanley Eite was born in 1896 at Nottingham the son of Alfred a joiner and his first wife Sarah Annie Fox Eite née Tomlinson. Alfred was born in 1862 at New Basford, Sarah Annie Fox Tomlinson was born in 1864 at Nottingham, they were married on 10th January 1884 at Nottingham and had further children Edith Ann b 1885, Clarissa Handley b1887. His father re married in 1899 at Nottingham to Elizabeth Amy Knight b1867 and had 3 further children, Winifred b1892, Thomas Bertram b1900 and Edgar David b1905. In 1911 the family were living at Westdale Lane, Mapperley At the time of Alfred Stanley's death the family were living at The Bungalow, Bonnington Road, Mapperley.

Military History

Private Alfred Eite served as JAMES WHITE, Formerly resident in the United States, Alfred Stanley Eite enlisted at Bristol and served with the 18th Battalion Welsh Regiment. He was killed in action on 30th September 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 6th February 1918 : - “EITE. - Missing since September 30th, 1916, now officially reported killed on that date, Pte. Alfred Stanley, Welsh Regt., aged 21, late of Baltimore, U.S.A., son of Alfred and the late Annie Eite, of this city.
