Percy Eite was born in 1883 in Nottingham and was the son of Frederick a clerk and Annie Eite née Dawson, they were married in 1876, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have the following children, Harry Dawson b1877 Nottingham, Fred Silas b1878 Nottingham, Percy b1883 Nottingham and William Bowyer b1891 Larbert Stirlingshire. Percy married Mary Ann Cunningham on 28th September 1907 at Edinburgh she was a widow and brought two children with her into the marriage, Catherine Cunningham born 20th May 1910 and John Cunningham born 22nd June 1903. He went on to have 2 further daughters with Mary Ann, Annie born 15th May 1909 at Thornaby and Alice born 25th March 1912 in Glasgow. At the time of his death the family were living at 21 Macclesfield Street, Hulme, Manchester, however later lived at 13 Constant Street, New Basford, Nottingham. Commencing 14th January 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.
Private Percy Eite, 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, enlisted on 29th August 1914, at Nottingham he gave his age as 30yrs and 27 days and his occupation as that of an iron driller. He stated that he had previous service in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders , being released in 1904 . He landed in France on 11th November 1914. After being hospitalised at Etaples suffering from Rheumatism he was returned to England on 28th January 1915 and remained until 17th May 1916. He embarked from Southampton on 19th May 1916 and landed in Rouen the following day and re joined his battalion on 6th June 1916. He was killed in action on 21st May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
His brother Harry Eite also enlisted on 16th October 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 38 yrs and 154 days, he was a butcher and also had previous service with the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. He was posted to his old regiment the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders and served throughout the war and was demobilised on 17th April 1919, his address at this time was 12 Sherbrook Terrace, Carrington
