He was the son of Samuel and Janey Levene of 32 Uppingham Terrace, Waterway Street, Meadows Nottingham. Mother: Janey Levene, born in 1875 in Russia and working as a market stander in fancy goods. Brother: Jospeh, born in 1897 in Russia. Sister: Dora, born in 1904 in London. Abraham at some point emigrated to Australia.

Military History

Private Abraham Levene, “D” Company, 4th Battalion Australian Imperial Force, was killed in action on 23rd July 1915. He is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, ANZAC. He enlisted on 28th August 1914 at Kensington, New South Wales, giving his name as David Conroy, a 22 year-old bush worker and general labourer. Reported wounded on 2nd May 1915, he was treated aboard H.M.H.S. Derfflinger and returned to the battalion on 17th June 1915.
