Ellis Boardman was born in 1897 at Nottingham and was the son of the late Ellis a coffee house owner and Charlotte Boardman née Hodgkinson of 24 Mount Court Mount Street Nottingham. His father Ellis was born in 1865 at Nottingham, his mother Charlotte Hodgkinson was born in 1867 at Radford, they were married in 1895 at Nottingham, they went on to have 3 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was Hilda born 1900 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Exchange Court, Mount Street, Nottingham and are shown as Charlotte 44 yrs a widow and charwoman she is living with her children Ellis 14 yrs an errand boy and Hilda 11 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Ellis Boardman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, 5th October 1917, whilst serving in the line near Hill 70, near Loos, France. He is buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, France. Plot 1. Row V. Grave 53.
