Family History

George Allcock was born in 1878 he was the son of the late William a coal miner and the late Mary Allcock née Ball and the brother of James and Edwin Allcock of Pleasley William was born in 1838 at Heanor, he died in 1912 he was he was 74 yrs old, Mary Ball was born in 1836 at South Normanton she died in 1906 she was aged 70 yrs they were married on 1st May 1859 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Beetwell Street, Cesterfield, they had 5 children. In 1911 the family lived at 6 New Yard Pleasley Hill Mansfield William 73 yrs is a retired coal miner he is living with his son James 51 yrs and his married son George 33 yrs a joiner and his wife Mary 25 yrs and their son Edwin 3 yrs of age. George married Mary Cook on 10th August 1907 at Clay Cross, Derbyshire, they lived at 6 New Yard, Pleasley Hill, Mansfield, they had 2 sons Edwin born 21st October 1908 and Wilfred born 21st August 1912. Commencing 24th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week. His widow later remarried to become Mary Elliott and lived at 57 Thomson Avenue New Edlington Doncaster.

Military History

Private George Allcock Enlisted on 9th December 1915 he was aged 37 years and 263 days. Posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he went to France 30th July 1917 and died, 18th December 1917, of acute nephritis (kidney failure) at 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, France. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen. Plot P. V, Row F, Grave 68.
