William Pass was born in 1899 at Hucknal and was the son of Herbert a coal miner and Sarah Pass née Jones of 43 Annesley Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His father Herbert was born in 1876 at Melbourne, Derbyshire and his mother Sarah Jones was born in 1876 at Hucknall, they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. They went on to have the following children, Lilian May b1898, William b1899, Samuel b1901, Horace b1907, Annie b1909, Gladys Ada b1911 and Lottie Amanda b1917 all were born in Hucknall. In the 1901 census the family are living at Hazel Grove, Hucknall. In the 1911 census his mother Sarah is at the Nottingham General Hospital, meanwhile the rest of his family are visitors at 25 Victoria Street, Hucknall, the home of George Hutchinson and his family and are shown as George Hutchinson 33 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 30 yrs and their daughter Ethel May 11 yrs , also with them is Herbert Pass 34 yrs a coal miner stallman and his children Lilly M,ay 14 yrs a factory hand in a cigar factory, William 12 yrs, Samuel 10 yrs , Horace 4 yrs and Annie 2yrs all are listed as visitors.

Military History

Private William Pass, enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 9th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd October 1918 and is buried in Highland Cemetery, Le Cateau.
