Charles Henry Wilkinson was the son of William a colliery banksman and Emma Wilkinson née Hubball of 4 Sherwood Place, Nuncargate, East Kirkby. His father William was born in 1845 at Woodville, Leicestershire, his mother Emma Hubball was born in 1851 at Ironville, Derbyshire, they were married on 8th January 1871 at Ironville and went on to have 12 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were , Agnes b1872 Ironville, John b1874 Ironville, Wiliam b1875 Ironville, Rose b1880 Ironville, Sophia b1887 Alfreton, Margaret b1889 Newhall, Annie b1891 Swadlincote and Charles Henry b1893 Hucknall. In the 1911 he and his parents are living at 4 Sherwood Place Nuncargate Nottinghamshire and are shown as William 66 yrs a colliery banksman he is living with his wife Emma 60 yrs and their son Charles 18 yrs a colliery road man, also living with them is Maggie Wilkinson 11 months of age described as an illegitimate daughter (however who's illegitimate daughter is unclear) Charles Wilkinson married his wife Winifred White (born 11th January 1894) in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at 8 Hazel Grove Hazel Street, Bulwell and later 80 Sherwood Street, East Kirkby, they had 2 daughters , Winifred born 22nd July 1916 and Nora Doreen born 22nd December 1918. Following his death his widow Winifred was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 14th April 1919.
Lance Corporal Charles Wilkinson enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at East Kirkby, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 19th September 1918 he is buried at Savy British Cemetery, France.
